A few years ago, the popular ShoePicker app allowed customers to customize shoes for the various car brands they owned, with a variety of options including Nike and Daimler, according to an interview with co-founder Chris Ziegler published on the app’s site.
“It was the same with cars,” Ziegling said.
“We saw people driving with their favorite brands and then we’d create a custom shoe for them.”
So far, the app has been downloaded more than 13 million times.
The shoe-maker says it’s now trying to bring the app to the automotive industry with the help of an undisclosed angel investor.
The company’s vision: to provide a universal way for users to create their own shoes that work with their vehicles.
According to Zieglich, the ShoePick app will also include a “unique” “mobile shoe” that can be worn on the car dashboard, which is supposed to be a more traditional “motor vehicle” shoe.
“You’ll see a lot of customizations coming to the car,” Zielg says.
“There’s always going to be more customization, but we’re looking for something that we can share with the automotive community.”
The shoe company is planning to release a “sexy new” shoe that is made from polyurethane, a more durable and flexible material that is already used in other cars, such as a car seat.
Ziegelman says the company has received a lot to-do from car manufacturers, and wants to use its expertise to “do some really cool things.”
“There’s so much cool stuff that we could do with the materials,” Ziegel says.
If you’re a car owner who has questions about buying a new pair of shoes, there’s an FAQ that’s designed to answer some common questions about shoes, according the company.
In addition to its app, Shoe Pick also has a website where customers can ask questions and see detailed reviews on shoes that fit their needs.
